Your broodmare needs breaks from having babies once in awhile, too long waiting sometimes results in complications of foaling as I know I heard of people experiencing that as people forget that when they are not in foal to get them checked by their vet to make sure they are in shape and perfect weight. A skinny mommy is not good at all. I have seen some posts on some sites that people are putting their broodmares on a diet to loose weight while in foal or right after foaling which is bad as while your mare is nursing its foal she needs those extra calories to keep up her weight.

How to keep your stallion in shape and perfect weight
Besides the normal hoof, teeth, deworming, and vet checks your stallion is the one who gets your broodmares pregnant. He needs a special feeding program too especially as he gets older. Share your feeding tips and changes as your stud gets older.
My Classic is 21 years young next month and doesn't have the old age problems at all except I have had to change his grain intake for his weight as his girls are bossy and he lets them get their way anymore since he is used to being in the herd with them. He does concentrate on his feed and when the weather is good he gets a few hours to half or most of the day out for grass.

Foal Training Tips
Desensitizing - halter - lead - loading into a trailer or back of car that has room for them to be hauled in - housetraining - preparing for the farrier - preparing for the vet - socialization to people, dogs, big horses, etc.

Post your newborn foals
Get ready to post pictures of your newborn foals on this post. Can't wait to see everyone's babies and show off my own that are due this year. My mares Violet and Rain are huge and ready to foal within the next two months. Violet will more than likely having a bay/brown based foal and Rain will be a surprise as I do not know what she looks like shed out of her winter coat and no idea what style of blue roan the sire of the foal is.

Violet is a great mother and even though she doesn't like to be spoiled except the way of treats she does enjoy daily scratches, walks when the weather permits, extra grain, carrots, apples, and Rounder's treats. South Hills is having upcoming events.... Nice business school to go to as I am currently going to help me create my own business maybe, for now I am going to school for better job opportunities as they have a great hiring rate. It is not horse related but has many great courses to take to help anyone here that has a business and wants to learn to do the accounting part of your business to cut down the costs of having an accountant or understanding what all your accountant does for you.
Welcome to my new blog about my miniature horses. My love of horses has always been with me since I can remember. I have always had horses and ponies most of my life until I had my son and decided a miniature horse his size would be the best to start him out with. Since then I now have five miniature horses, two of which are due to foal this spring/summer, they are my spoiled babies since my son is no longer into them at all at the age of 13 and would rather be with his friends or in his room. I mainly love to rescue some occasionally from auction and get them ready for the home best suited for them not for the home they do not want. In the summer time my minis get the run of the yard on nice days for a few hours at a time. I love training them and working on their ground manners as I bet many of you have some miniature brats that only you can handle, LOL. You are welcome to share your miniature horse tales, pictures, and care information. I am always open to different ways of training as long as it is humane and your miniature horse is well cared for and loved.
